Vintage thread holder

Here is a vintage thread holder, probably used for small reels of silk thread.
Made of dark wood and what I believe is bone. The pin through the middle is a metal and is a little bent, but it still turns easily.

I am assuming there is a part missing, and both pillars should be the same length, there is a small metal pin which I believe the missing part would have sat on.

The base measures 9.5cm x 5.5cm, and it is approximately 10cm tall.

Regardless of the damage, I think it still makes a lovely display piece. I would guess it is approximately 100 years old.
