The listing is for a highly collectable and antique enamelled metal needle cases from John Barker & Co Ltd.
John Barker & Co Ltd was established in 1894 and ran until 1957 when they were purchased by House of Fraser.
The cases resemble shotgun cartridges with enamelled steel body and steel end caps.
The coloured enamelled bodies are over-printed in Victorian gold numbers, letters and decorations showing the maker, brand and how to use the case correctly. The gold printing is faded, but you can still make out the name.
The top steel caps are a dial that have a milled edge to aid turning the indicator arrow to point gold numbers identifying needle sizes. The bottom cap contains a hole from which the needles are dispensed when the case is shaken gently.
These are pre-loved items, which show some wear, but are in great condition.
Highly collectable and sought after little needle case in wonderful condition which are still useable and perfect for the vintage sewing box.
